Getting away from it all

My family and I escaped the inner-city of Troy for a few days as we headed for Minerva Lake, located in New York's Adirondack Mountains. It was 4th of July weekend and what better way to spend it than with family, in the mountains, camping out. My parents are regulars at Minerva Lake, where I spent many, many happy days as a kid. Here they have no eletricity on the campsites, which means...no TV, no computers, no e-mail, facebook or twitter updates...and...no cell phone coverage. Brenda and the boys and I roughed it out in a tent for two nights. Daniel and Jacob brought their bikes with them and enjoyed having the run of the campground on them. They also enjoyed fishing, swimming in the lake, making new friends and toasting marshmallows over the campfire. What a great time we all had getting away from our day to day routine.
The weekend ended with us visiting another campground, Shadow Brook, a Christian camp located in Cooperstown, NY (home of baseball hall of fame). Our worship leader, Donna, and her band 4ever1, participated in an all day "Sing to Jesus" festival with five other Christian bands and six guest preachers, including yours truly. Altogether we covered nearly 400 miles of driving and the weather couldn't have been better. This will definitely go down as 4th of July to remember.
